The Suicide Squad: 5 characters Nathan Fillion could play
4. James Gordon Jr.
It is unknown how marred in continuity future DCEU movies will be. The only confirmed cast member of The Batman is Robert Pattinson as Batman. Whether or not J.K. Simmons will return as Commissioner Gordon is anyone’s guess and ultimately up to director Matt Reeves.
The age difference between Simmons and Nathan Fillion is 16 years. Commissioner Gordon fathering a child in his teen years would certainly be an interesting wrinkle in his character but with movie magic, it could be played off that Fillion is Simmons’ son.
James Gordon Jr. is likely a relatively unknown character amongst fans who only watch movies. Commissioner Gordon’s son is typically a presented as a young child or just an off-screen character.
Gordon Jr. actually has a very dark history to him. Continuity varies on whether he is the blood brother or half-brother of Barbara Gordon, but he is seen terrorizing his sister in the Batgirl solo comic.
Fillion has played roles involving law enforcement before in Castle and The Rookie. It would be a fascinating turn to go from comedic TV crime fighter to psychotic murderer in The Suicide Squad. Fillion is also very well known and has a distinct look. Gordon Jr. would present him with an opportunity to dramatically change things up without the need for CGI.
Gordon Jr. serves as an advisor for Amanda Waller in The New 52’s version of the Suicide Squad. He does not have a very prominent role but with very little information it is possible that Fillion could only be in The Suicide Squad only for a small handful of scenes.
