MCU: 30 sets of actors and crew who have worked together outside the franchise
6. Robert Downey Jr, Rachel McAdams and Jude Law
Who doesn’t love RDJ? He’s Iron Man in the MCU, but did you know he’s worked with Doctor Strange’s Rachel McAdams and Captain Marvel’s Jude Law?
These three MCU actors appeared together in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes movies as Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, and Irene Adler, respectively.
Downey and Law aren’t the only MCU actors to play Holmes and Watson. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays McAdams’s love interest in Doctor Strange, also played Sherlock Holmes. And Martin Freeman, who plays Everett Ross, succeeded Law as Watson.
7. Josh Dallas and Sebastian Stan
Now, if you remember actor Josh Dallas, you might remember he starred in the first Thor movie as Fandral, a close friend to the titular character. Originally, the actor wasn’t the first choice for the role, with Zachary Levi being cast first but dropping out because of his commitments on Chuck. However, after that series ended, Levi took the role back in the Thor sequels The Dark World and Ragnarok. Dallas couldn’t continue the role because of his own commitments on Once Upon a Time, which is what we’ll be talking about here.
However, Sebastian Stan’s role in the series ended given his commitment to playing the Winter Soldier in the MCU. It was reported that the character of Jefferson would be recast. The show’s creators originally wanted to replace him after his departure but chose not to because of fan backlash as the character had left his mark.
8. Katherine Langford and Chris Evans
Okay, so 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford hasn’t technically appeared in the MCU, but she filmed a scene with Robert Downey, Jr for Avengers: Endgame where she appeared to Tony as a teenaged version of his daughter, Morgan. The scene got cut because the Russos thought people would be confused and that it wouldn’t make much sense. But did you know Langford worked with Captain America himself, Chris Evans?
The film the pair worked on is the upcoming film Knives Out, where Evans plays a spoiled brat, while Langford plays his cousin.
9. Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Before they played Maximoff twins Wanda and Pietro (or Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver), Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson played two very different roles in 2014’s Godzilla.
In the monster flick, the pair play Elle and Ford Brody, a married couple who are caught up in the escape of Godzilla. The actors became such good friends that when they were asked to join the MCU as their respected characters, they consulted each other on whether to take the roles.
10. Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana, and Idris Elba
Before they were members of the MCU, Chris Evans, Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba (Captain America, Gamora and Heimdall), they played lead roles in the film The Losers.
The movie featured the trio in roles different from their Marvel ones. Evans played a computer hacker, Saldana played a woman described as “a snake”, while Elba played an explosives expert.
