Arrowverse: Tom Welling reprising Smallville role in Crisis on Infinite Earths
Move over and make room for the Blur as Tom Welling suits up as Clark Kent in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Fans have long-awaited the answer to the question: Who will Tom Welling play in Crisis on Infinite Earths? Of course, hearing his name invoked thoughts of Welling playing Superman. However, with Brandon Routh and Tyler Hoechlin both playing the Man of Steel, the ideal began to dwindle.
However, it appears the comic book gods were listening. According to EW, Tom Welling will reprise the role that made him legendary in the eyes of comic book fans.
"“Tom Welling will guest-star in The CW’s upcoming Arrowverse crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths” reprising his Smallville role of Clark Kent.”"
It’s been eight long years since we saw Welling suit up. The Arrowverse teased Smallville more than once, with the most nostalgic callback happening during the last crossover event, when Barry and Oliver landed on the Kent Farm after Smallville’s “Save Me” theme song (performed by Remy Zero) played, leaving us all with such a warm feeling. Unfortunately, fans didn’t get to see anyone from the series.
Of course, fans are crious as to whether Welling will actually wear the Superman outfit. After all, Smallville robbed them of the opportunity with their, “No flight no tights”. It wasn’t all bad since the show kinda broke their rule – at least in the final episode of the series, as fans got a glimpse of what they had waited a decade for. The series flashed forward a few years and gave us a chance to see what Metropolis looked like with Superman in action.
The memorable scene followed Welling in full on classic Clark Kent mode. He then went to the top of the roof and ripped open his shirt exposing the iconic symbol before taking flight. It was an awe-inspiring moment that made it worthwhile. Nevertheless, that was a long time ago and so much has changed since then.

It’s safe to say fans are hoping for a Smallville cast reunion. After all, one of the show’s biggest players was the young Man of Steel’s close friend, Oliver Queen (played by Justin Hartley), and it would be nice to see another Green Arrow make an appearance.
Another name we hope to hear is Erica Durance who played, Lois Lane. Durance is no stranger to the Arrowverse as she played a guest role on Supergirl in Season 3 as the Girl of Steel’s mother, Alura. Could we see her take on double duty? We sure hope so, after all, she’s arguably the best live-action versions of Lois.
However, there’s no character fans want to see more than Lex Luthor. Michael Rosenbaum embodied everything comic book fans wanted in a live-action Lex and fans would undoubtedly love to see him appear opposite Welling one more time.
Whether or not we get other Smallville characters remains to be seen, but Welling’s Man of Steel is set to return to the small screen.
Crisis On Infinite Earths kicks off on Dec. 8, 2019 with an episode of Supergirl . Are you glad to hear that Welling will return to his most famous role? Let us know in the comments below!
