Supergirl will add a pair of new recurring characters to its line-up in its fifth season.

Supergirl season 5 will add at least a pair of new recurring characters to the Arrowverse in Cara Buono and Mitch Pileggi.

This news was previously reported by Deadline.

Buono, known for her role as Karen Wheeler in Stranger Things, will portray an ancient alien named Gamemnae, who is described by Deadline as “cunning, witty and ruthless.” Gamemnae is charged with safeguarding humanity from their own folly, subjugating them through technology.

Buono has also had recurring roles in Mad Men, Person of Interest, and The Sopranos, and has appeared in the 2003 movie Hulk as Edith Banner, Bruce’s mother.

Pileggi, known for his role of Walter Skinner on The X-Files,  will play Rama Khan, an ancient alien who can control the classic elements of earth, wind, fire and air. He is described by Deadline as “arrogant and willful,” and has been protecting humanity for millions of years, but will draw the ire of Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).

More from Arrowverse

Pileggi has also had recurring roles on Stargate: Atlantis, Grey’s Anatomy and Supernatural, guest-starring on everything from Castle to The West Wing, and voicing Commissioner James Gordon in the animated series The Batman.

Despite their intentions of keeping humanity out of self-caused trouble, both Gamemnae and Rama Khan will find themselves on a collision course with Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) this season.

Rama Khan was first introduced in DC Comics in March 2002 in JLA No. 62, and has broken Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth.

Gamemnae was first introduced in DC Comics in September 2002 in JLA No. 69, becoming the leader of a magic-based group of antagonists/villains called the League of Ancients.

They are both from Atlantis in the comics, and at one point ruled the city together.

Supergirl and her allies will face the looming Crisis on Infinite Earths in the biggest Arrowverse crossover yet, in addition to whatever other kinds of havoc and mayhem need to be thwarted, whether caused by aliens or politics.
