Black Lightning: 3 big takeaways from the Season 3 trailer
By Mark Lynch
Trouble with Agent Odell
The trailer let us know that Agent Odell was everything we assumed him to be – someone who will do whatever he feels is necessary.
He tells Anissa and Jennifer (Black Lightning’s daughters) that their parents won’t be coming home. He says, “Consider this protective custody for your good and the greater good of the country.” It’s really a prison and Jefferson calls it that.
But it’s not just Lynn and Jefferson that are on lockdown. We see that there are other citizens being put in cages as well. Then, Odell calls for the lockdown of Freeland as well.
This is only the first part of the trailer and things are heavy. First, Black Lightning is continuing their theme of using their subject matter to take a stance on real world issues. Jefferson and Lynn being locked up “for their protection” is a clear violation of their rights, and this is going to be hard to watch with this alone.
Later in the trailer, we see Jefferson fighting while wearing a new Black Lighting suit. Did he escape to fight the good fight on his own? Or is he working with Odell for the greater good? The latter is more likely. It’s going to be difficult for Jefferson to fight for Odell, especially since Jefferson knows it’s probably the right thing to do.
