Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to start shooting this fall

Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is slated to begin shooting very soon.
With a slate filled with both films and TV series, Marvel Studios have a lot on their plate for Phase Four of their cinematic universe. One of these projects is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which will feature the franchise’s first Asian lead. Not much is known about the plot, but we now know when cameras will start rolling on the film.
MCU Exchange reports that Shang-Chi is scheduled to commence principal photography on November 1st. The date comes from a production list, which also included Los Angeles as a filming location for the project. This marks the second known shooting location, as Sydney, Australia was previously reported.
In addition to the start date and location, the list also included an early description being used for the movie. It’s important to note that this doesn’t confirm the actual plot, but it does give an idea of what we can expect:
"“In the comics, Shang-Chi is the son of China-based globalist who raised and educated his progeny in his reclusive China compound, closed off to the outside world. The son trained in the martial arts and developed unsurpassed skills.”"
This would explain Shang-Chi’s absense in the MCU thus far, but what’s most interesting about this description is the mention of his “China-based globalist” father. In the comics, his father was actually the head of a Chinese crime syndicate. And with the film formally introducing the true Mandarin to the MCU, is it possible that he’s Shang-Chi’s dad?
Shang-Chi will kick off what has become a packed year for Marvel Studios. The movie will be followed by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder and the recently announced third Spider-Man film. This doesn’t even include Disney Plus’ Loki, What If…? and Hawkeye series.
Based on its early 2021 release date, a fall start for Shang-Chi makes sense, and it will likely wrap production sometime in the spring. It’ll be interesting to see what Marvel Studios has planned for the Master of Kung-Fu’s big-screen debut. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hits theaters on February 12, 2021.
