Sin City doesn’t get the respect it deserves as one of the best comic book movies of all time. Here’s why it should be considered as such.

When people think of comic book movies, they tend to immediately go to DC or Marvel Comics. Why wouldn’t they? These two companies have been the titans of comic books and movies for almost two decades. It helps that they have iconic characters like Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman starring in these films.

But that’s not to say that there haven’t been other comic book movies that are also beloved. Among those movies is one directed by movie legends Frank Miller, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez – the 2005 crime thriller Sin City.

It’s sad that people tend to forget some of the other comic book movies before this modern DC and MCU era. There were multiple movies before the X-Men, The Avengers, and Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy. Flicks like Dick Tracy, Men in Black, and, of course, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are still popular to this day. Sin City, however, was something very new.

One of the first films that many took note of for not being like the normal comic book movie we were used to seeing. It had the same appeal that Amazon’s The Boys has now – something different right when things were starting to become bland. And it excelled.

A $40 million dollar budget, the film grossed over $70 million domestically. Almost 15 years later and it’s still one of the best comic book projects we’ve ever seen.
