Rumor: Michael Keaton’s Batman returns in Crisis On Infinite Earths

The Arrowverse may have just found a unique way to incorporate Michael Keaton’s Batman. Are you ready to take a trip to Earth-89?

Crisis On Infinite Earths is going to be an event to remember. The five-part crossover will see Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman unite for the first (and, in Arrow‘s case, last) time in order to bring about the long-awaited live-action adaption of the classic comic book.

The Flash has been teasing the Crisis for five years now, with the first reference coming all the way back in its pilot episode in 2014. However, it became a reality in last season’s three-part Elseworlds crossover, as The Monitor revealed that it was coming.

Naturally, such a huge event has fans excited, especially because the involvement of the multiverse means that we could see a ton of our favorite non-Arrowverse heroes show up.

More from Arrowverse

So far, we know that Smallville‘s Tom Welling and Erica Durance will reprise their roles as that show’s version of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, Superman Returns‘ Brandon Routh will be reprising his most famous role but as the Kingdom Come Man of Steel, Batman: The Animated Series‘ Kevin Conroy will play his first ever live-action Bruce Wayne and Batman 1966’s Burt Ward will make an appearance in an undisclosed role.

However, according to a new rumor, the crossover could also feature a special appearance of sorts from Michael Keaton.

Though the legendary actor, who portrayed The Dark Knight in 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns, won’t appear, an apparent Crisis set photo of the Gotham City Gazette newspaper reveals an image of the actor’s Bruce Wayne, with the article headline reading “WayneTech CEO – Bruce Wayne To Marry Socialite Selina Kyle”.

While the origin of the photo remains unclear, it was posted by reliable Arrowverse YouTuber Pagey on his official Twitter page (and can be viewed here). It has since been reported by various news outlets, including Heroic Hollywood.

Thus, while we should all remain vigilant and proceed with caution, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Arrowverse were to pay tribute to Keaton’s Batman, given that he paved the way for the modern day superhero movies. The only question is: If this is Earth-89, does that mean Bruce and Selina (Michelle Pfeiffer) finally got together after Batman Returns? Does this make Batman Forever and Batman & Robin as non-canon sequels?
