Arrow spin-off Green Arrow and The Canaries officially begins filming
The pilot of the highly-anticipated Arrow spin-off commences shooting today, and some of the stars have taken to social media to mark the occasion.
Arrow dominated superhero television with an incredible reign over the past seven years. But alas, all good things must come to an end and, with that, the originator of the Arrowverse will officially conclude when its eighth season comes to an end at the beginning of next year.
However, while the rest of the shows within the shared universe that it created (The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman) will indeed carry on its legacy, they may not be the only shows that it leaves behind.
It was announced last month that an Arrow spin-off is in the works – one that will be led by Arrow leading lady Katie Cassidy, long-running cast member Juliana Harkavy and Season 7 recruit Katherine McNamara as the trio reprise their roles of Laurel Lance/Black Siren/Black Canary, Dinah Drake/Black Canary and Mia Smoak – who will presumably take up the Green Arrow mantle.
The potential series will be set up by its parent show, as Arrow‘s penultimate episode (the episode after Crisis On Infinite Earths) will serve as a backdoor pilot. And now, after the official working title was revealed to be Green Arrow and The Canaries, the pilot episode will begin shooting today, Oct. 21.
The news was confirmed by Harkavy and McNamara who posted it on their social media accounts this morning, telling their fans how excited they were to get started.

Not much is known about the spin-off yet. Though Mia Smoak has interacted with both Dinah and Laurel’s Black Canaries in the Season 7 flash-forwards to 2040, fans have been left wondering if the spin-off show will remain in the future, or if Mia will somehow get sent back to 2019/2020 to work with the present-day versions of the characters instead.
As the recently unveiled comic-inspired artwork features Laurel and Dinah in their current outfits, it certainly looks like they’ll be going about preventing the 2040 future from ever coming to pass instead of saving the future that remains. Either way, count us in Canaries!
Good luck ladies! We can’t wait to see it!
The backdoor pilot for Green Arrow and The Canaries will air as the ninth episode of Arrow‘s final season, presumably at the beginning of next year. Are you excited to see what it has in store for all of us? Let us know in the comments below!
