Happy Halloween: 7 frightening Marvel Comics movie scenes
By Mark Lynch
1. Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin
Movie: Spider-Man (2002)
The Green Goblin costume worn by Willem Dafoe in Sam Raimi’s 2002 Spider-Man certainly left a lot to be desired, but not even that could take away from just how terrifying the character actually was, because let’s face it: The sight of those big yellow eyes and the still face busting through a wall would be more than enough to scare anyone. And that’s on top of the great acting skills of Willem Dafoe.
When the iconic villain crashed through the Daily Bugle window and used the Goblin voice, he made J. Jonah Jameson give up the tough guy act real quick. He also frightened Aunt May so bad that it sent her to the hospital crying about his giant yellow eyes. And let’s not forget that infamous mirror scene, in which Dafoe effortlessly switched back and forth from weak Norman to the powerful Goblin in a matter of seconds. This was like something out of a suspense thriller, and it was a scene that certainly stayed with fans for a long time after viewing it.
