3. The Snap
Movie: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Thanos knew that the Universe’s resources were finite and being gone through at an alarming rate. In order to save everyone, Thanos had an idea: He was going to balance the universe by killing of 50% of its population.
At first, Thanos and his army were going planet to planet and doing it on their own. This would have taken him more time than he had, so he found an easier way: Get all of the Infinity Stones and snap his fingers. First, he had to go through the best heroes in the universe. Going by the track record, Thanos didn’t stand a chance. We were wrong. Thanos won. Leaving everyone (including the audience) stunned.
This was the most devastating event in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s the first time an MCU movie ended with the heroes losing. Thanos became the first villain to have a plan and see it through to the end. Even after some of the Avengers found Thanos post snap, it was too late. Thanos used the Infinity Stones to destroy them. It took five long years before the heroes had chance to set things right. In that time, the entire universe was in shambles and void of hope.
