14. Thor gets banished

Movie: Thor (2011)

Thor wasn’t always the happy and heroic god we know today. He used to be a jerk.

In the first Thor movie, we see his arrogance and, need to prove himself, get him in trouble. Thor decided to take his friends (the Warriors Three and Sif) and venture off to Jotunheim (where the Frost Giants live) and confront the king of the Frost Giants, Laufy.  This almost started another war between Asgard and Jotunheim. After de-escalating this conflict, Odin scolded his son Thor for being brash.

Thor didn’t take it kindly and called Odin an old man and a fool. Odin then took his powers away and cast him out of Asgard. A moment that changed the course of Thor’s history forever.

Had Odin not banished his son, Thor wouldn’t have learned humility or that humans were worth protecting. He would have become a king who didn’t know how to rule and turned into a tyrant. What’s worse is Earth wouldn’t have been saved.

Without Thor, the Avengers would have been short one powerful hero when Thanos sent the Chitauri to attack New York. There’s no telling if they would have been able to defeat them without the God of Thunder and it’s not like Thor would have helped as he probably would have looked at Earth with disdain.
