11. The (not so) Civil War

Movie: Captain America: Civil War (2019)

The Avengers had been a tightly knit group for a while now. They protected who they could and avenged those they couldn’t. No matter how much good they did, there was still tension among them. It was bound to boil over at some point. That moment came in Captain America: Civil War.

Bucky was framed for a terrorist act which was the final straw for the governments of the world. They wanted the Avengers to work for them or not at all. All of the destruction needed to be accounted for. Steve Rogers and Tony Stark were on opposite ends of this argument. Sides were taken and a battle was fought. The result was Steve Rogers leaving the country and Iron Man being alone.

A lot happened here that shaped the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Infinity Saga forever. The Avengers split up. T’Challa became King of Wakanda after his father died in the explosion. Wanda and Vision left the country. Peter Parker became an Avenger. Most importantly, when Thanos came, the Avengers weren’t around to defend Earth. Maybe they could have stopped him if they were together. Who knows, maybe things would have been worse. That could have been one of the universes Doctor Strange saw. Unless this becomes an episode of Disney Plus’ What if…?, we’ll never know.
