14. Captain America: Civil War

Released: May 6, 2016

The final installment in the MCU’s Captain America trilogy, Civil War was heavily inspired by much of what went down in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age Of Ultron, as a terrible accident involving Wanda Maximoff (a.k.a. Scarlet Witch) resulted in the government ordering the Avengers to sign a document known as the Sokovia Accords.

But when Captain Rogers refused to do that (after all, why would he trust the government after Winter Solider?), Tony Stark implored him to do so – resulting in an all-out war breaking out between the two leaders of The Avengers, and the members who were forced to pick sides.

Yet again, a Captain America movie saw the titular hero forced to fight an uphill battle against a powerful agency that wanted nothing more than to take him down. This time, however, the battlefield was crowded with a lot more friends – and that, along with the debut of Spider-Man, made this one of the MCU’s most unforgettable offerings.

Though the large-scale storyline often made it feel more like an Avengers film than a Captain America offering, there is no denying how well-executed it all is – and the character moments involving Steve made it all worthwhile, as they captured that heroic, inspiring essence of the “Star-Spangled Man With A Plan”.
