Superhero movies: 25 best superhero movie performances of the decade
By Mark Lynch
6. Josh Brolin as Thanos and Cable
Superhero Movies: Deadpool 2, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame
Josh Brolin killed both roles he was in. As Cable (Deadpool 2,) he had the essence of everything Nathan Summers was in the comics. Somehow, he made Cable darker, angrier, and grittier.
As Thanos (Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame), he became one of the greatest villains in movie history. It seemed cheap to put him on here twice. However, both roles have to be acknowledged, especially since he was in two record-breaking movies in the same year. Something else should be acknowledged: playing two different characters with two different challenges.
"“The hardest choices require the strongest wills.” -Thanos"
Brolin may have been in a CGI suit as Thanos, but there was a lot of voice work that went along with it. Physical things can be fixed in the final edit. The voice acting is something different. Brolin added a calming voice to Thanos. He was rarely angry even in the face of death. It was masterful. As Cable, he was violent, aggressive, and mean. It made sense. Cable lost everything and trying to get it back, even if it meant killing a kid.
Hopefully we’ll get more Thanos and Cable in the MCU. Thanos could be in a past movie (looking at you, Eternals). Since fans want more Deadpool, Cable, and Domino, hopefully we’ll get it. Who knows. Cable is a time traveler. Will we get the ultimate crossover of Thanos and Cable?
