Paul Blackthorne returns as Quentin Lance in this week’s episode of Arrow, but just how does “Reset” bring back the former SCPD Captain?

Laurel Lance sure dropped a huge bombshell in last week’s episode of Arrow. That’s right, the Black Canary reached out to allies Oliver Queen and John Diggle in inform them of The Monitor’s offer to her and, by extension, revealed that the latter’s wife Lyla was working with him.

Their discovery of this, however, soon led to their unconsciousness, as an unknown assailant shot them all with tranquilizer darts. It was a shocking conclusion to the episode, no doubt, but one that will undoubtedly be outdone in the shocks department by this week’s offering.

Yes, it seems that things will go from weird to weirder for Oliver and Laurel, as the pair will find their lives turned upside by the fact that Quentin Lance is alive and well. Though that should be something worth celebrating, we all know that not everything in the Arrowverse is what it seems. Or is it?

The episode, aptly titled “Reset”, will be directed by David Ramsey and will see the Green Arrow and Black Canary wake up in an alternate reality where things aren’t quite how they remembered them – of course, the biggest difference being that Quentin was never killed.

Check out the episode’s trailer below:

Fans will undoubtedly remember that Quentin died in the Season 6 finale after he was shot by Ricardo Diaz whilst protecting Laurel – the Earth-2 doppelganger of his daughter. Though Laurel and Dinah Drake got him to the hospital on time, the Star City Mayor died during surgery.

More from Arrowverse

The character played a major role throughout his time on the show as he dealt with a number of issues – including the losses of both his daughters (one of them twice) – before he ultimately looked past Oliver’s previous actions and his playboy reputation to see him for the hero he had become.

With that in mind, it’s going to be interesting to see how Oliver copes with seeing the man who influenced so much of his life alive and well again. But on a more important note, it’s going to be even more interesting to see how Laurel copes, given that he was the one who helped the once-villainous Black Siren on her path to redemption. And it appears that both of these factors will play into the episode.

Check out The CW’s official synopsis for “Reset” below:

"“After being double-crossed by Lyla (guest star Audrey Marie Anderson), Oliver (Stephen Amell) finds himself facing a life or death situation that seems very familiar. Laurel (Katie Cassidy) has the opportunity to make amends with the past.”"

Each episode of Arrow‘s final season thus far has reintroduced at least one former favorite, with the likes of Susanna Thompson, John Barrowman, Colin Donnell, Willa Holland, Rila Fukushima, Kelly Hu, Echo Kellum and Colton Haynes all reprising their roles. And now the incomparable Paul Blackthorne adds his name to that list. The question is: Will he be sticking around for more than one episode?
