Crisis on Infinite Earths: Every DC Comics event ranked worst to best
By Scott Brown
23. Convergence
Spanning out of the events of Earth 2: World’s End and The New 52: Future’s End, what happens when it’s discovered the former universes are being collected?
The idea for Convergence is, honestly, phenomenal. The execution of the actual series though is absolutely dismal. The main series makes little to no sense. There are barely any motivations for any of the characters. The attempt to tie the series into the DC universe proper is lackluster. The tie-in issues are where the series shines, but those are two issues a piece, not amounting to much in the overall story.
It really feels like this event was built to cash-in on nostalgia and nothing else. The only reason it’s not even lower is because the series reintroduced pre-Flashpoint Superman and Lois, as well as Jon Kent, to the DC universe. So, at least that’s a good thing about the event.
22. Invasion!
Coming together to destroy the metahumans of Earth, alien races from across the galaxy, led by the Dominators, begin to invade and attempt destroy the planet.
Probably the best thing about this series is that it was adapted as an annual Arrowverse crossover. Other than that, there’s not much going on with this series. It’s somehow quite boring even during the action sequences. For something called Invasion!, it takes awhile to get to the actual invasion and the heroes of the DCU feel kind of ineffective against it. This is post-Crisis on Infinite Earths so it doesn’t feel right for them to struggle, really at all, against a relatively small fleet when they beat the Anti-Monitor a few years prior. Really, the event, as a whole, has some good ideas, but doesn’t have a decent follow through.
