Supergirl completed production on its 100th episode, and it’s truly a groundbreaking accomplishment.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Supergirl.

The CW’s superhero TV series that centers on the iconic Girl of Steel has been a part of our screens for nearly half a decade. Initially a CBS show, Supergirl debuted back in 2015 before it moved to The CW at the beginning of its second season (where it has continued to thrive ever since). Four seasons, 99 episodes and countless inspiring speeches later, the show has reached its 100th episode.

In honor of the milestone, the cast and crew gathered in the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver to host a celebration. Yes, Kara Danvers herself, Melissa Benoist, led the line-up of famous faces and was joined by the show’s former leading man, and her husband, Chris Wood (who portrayed Mon-El).

They were also joined by Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers), David Harewood (J’onn, J’onzz), Katie McGrath (Lena Luthor), Jesse Rath (Brainiac-5), Nicole Maines (Nia Nal), Andrea Brooks (Eve Teschmacher), Azie Tesfai (Kelly Olsen), Bitsie Tulloch (Lois Lane), Julie Gonzalo (Andrea Rojas) and Staz Nair (William Dey).

A super achievement

Centering on Kara Zor-El of Krypton, Supergirl charts the adventures of the Kryptonian hero as she ascends to new heights as earth’s champion Supergirl. And that premise right there has, in a way, allowed the show to make history.

Reaching 100 episodes is a major milestone for any TV series, and now Supergirl follows in the footsteps of Arrowverse counterparts Arrow and The Flash – which surpassed 100 episodes in 2016 and 2018 respectively. However, by reaching that milestone that so many others already have, the show has made history – history that is entirely its own milestone.

More from Arrowverse

Yes, Supergirl has now become the first ever female-led superhero show to reach 100 episodes. A show that constantly delivers in breaking ground when it comes to diversity and female empowerment, this is just another monumental achievement – and it’s an achievement that once again proves that the myth that “female superheroes don’t sell” is just that: A myth.

Supergirl may not be the first ever live-action female-led superhero drama. No, long before it came along, the likes of Wonder Woman and The Bionic Woman were paving the way for a future in which it was possible. However, it has managed to do what many of male-led superhero shows have and exceeded a major television milestone. And that is, without a doubt, Super Groundbreaking.

Bravo Supergirl. May you continue to push boundaries and break the mold for many more seasons to come. Up, Up and Away, indeed.

dark. Next. All you need to know about Crisis On Infinite Earths

Supergirl is currently on hiatus and will return to The CW in January 2020, starting with the two-part conclusion to Crisis On Infinite Earths across special episodes of Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Which of the show’s episodes have been your favorite? Let us know in the comments below.
