The Mandalorian season 2 to feature established Star Wars characters
By Erik Swann
Familiar faces from the Star Wars universe could be popping up on the next season of The Mandalorian.
The Mandalorian just completed an entertaining first season that highlighted a new corner of the Star Wars universe, one that didn’t include any classic characters. However, this could change when the series returns for its second season next fall.
Sources tell Deadline that the show may include several “established characters” from the Skywalker Saga in its second season. Unsurprisingly, there’s no indication as to who the Mando will cross paths with when he returns to the small screen.
The first season of The Mandalorian was filled with Easter eggs and references to the larger Star Wars universe, including a major one in the season finale. Still, there haven’t been any actual walk-on cameos from well-known Star Wars characters. Bringing in some veterans could help to further tie the show to the franchise.

The Mandalorian takes place within a very specific time period within the Star Wars mythos. Because it’s set a few years after the events of Return of the Jedi and years before the Sequel Trilogy, there are limitations on who can and can’t appear on the show. The biggest characters who would be around during this immediate period would be those from the Original Trilogy like Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. Luke’s presence would be interesting given that Din Djarin is caring for a Force-sensitive child and is now seeking to find the Jedi.
Realistically, the chances of these characters appearing are slim, as actors like Mark Hamill or Harrison Ford would need to be de-aged. And it’s also likely they wouldn’t be keen on reprising their roles for the show.
On the other hand, the show can feature other bounty hunters of the time period like Bossk, Dengar and IG-88. Having some of the galaxy’s deadliest pursue Djarin in season two could kick things up a notch.
