12. Hela VS Asgard
Movie: Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
It started with a speech. Hela let all of Asgard know who she was, that Odin and the princes (Thor and Loki) were dead, and that she was the new ruler of Asgard. Hogun and the Asgardian warriors refused to let her take the throne without a fight. This wasn’t a fight. It was a massacre.
The Goddess of Death swept through every warrior in Asgard like a plague, killing everyone without so much as breaking a sweat and did it with style. You could count on one hand how many times she was hit. Hela slashed through every warrior and destroyed the ships in the sky. Crushing Thor’s hammer was impressive, but this was something else altogether.
Why it ranks as one of the greatest fight scenes from this decade’s superhero movies
It’s a mystery why Hela isn’t brought up more often. She was more dominant than any villain not named Thanos. Could Thor have done what Hela did? It’s doubtful. Hela was a force of nature. She cut her way through her foes easily.
There was also the bravado that came with it. After telling the Asgardians that she killed Thor and Loki she said, “You’re welcome” as if she was doing everyone a favor. There’s no way Hela’s slaughter of Asgard should be forgotten. It’s easily the most underrated fight scene on this list.
