This probably isn’t the first ‘Best of’ list you’ve seen Avengers: Endgame top and, in all likelihood, it won’t be the last either – but that just highlights how big of an impact it had on moviegoers. And when you consider the reputation it was hoping to live up to, that’s hardly surprising.
Whether or not the film itself lived up to that near-perfect reputation fans were hoping it would remains up for debate – as some have taken issue with certain aspects while other fans weren’t thrilled about others – but the fact of the matter is that everyone was hoping for it to be an epic, jaw-dropping and compelling ending to a 22-film saga and that’s exactly what they got.
A stunning tale of heartbreak, grief and loss of faith evolves into an epic saga showcasing the best that humanity has to offer. Love, hope and a never-ending determination to overcome defeat drives the film, proving to audiences that these heroes protect a world that doesn’t need Thanos’ so-called purification. Moreover, those heroes were willing to go to unimaginable lengths to undo the damage he caused – and that is the purest form of heroism of them all.
With the whole MCU cast turning in some of their finest performances and a masterpiece of a battle worthy of such a game-changing spectacle, Avengers: Endgame accomplished everything it set out to do and made history in the process.
Of course it was the best comic book movie of the year.
