Black Panther: 10 fun facts that will blow your mind
9. Ulysses Klaue And T’Chaka
In Black Panther, Ulysses Klaue was an adversary that was never caught by T’Chaka. T’Challa mentions that not capturing the villain was his father’s greatest regret. It also depicts how different the newer Black Panther is from his father. And while T’Challa does capture Klaue, he escapes and is later murdered by Killmonger. This “betrayal” prompts his best friend, W’Kabi, to side with Erik when he takes over Wakanda.
However, in the comics, Klaue killed T’Chaka when T’Challa was a child, which was not the case in the movie.
In the film, Klaue is a plot device to show how dangerous Killmonger can be when he is crossed. Though he was introduced in Avengers: Age of Ulron, Klaue is shown to be just as deadly, especially when it comes to Wakanda. He schemed to sue Vibranium in the outside world for all things bad.
In regards to T’Challa and Klaue’s relationship, it should be noted that they hate each other because of their different views. In the beginning, T’Challa was dead set against having Wakanda known to the outside world, while Klaue wants the universe to know who they are and what hypocrites they are for not being on the world stage. This also links to the reason why T’Challa and Killmonger are at each other’s throats.
