Something new

Joker, The Boys, and Watchmen all went a long way to prove something major in 2019: Comic book movies and TV shows don’t have to be the same. Sure, entities like the Marvel Cinematic Universe have their own traditional style and, obviously it works – you can’t have movies that consistently make around $500 million and not have a system that works. But New Mutants is going to be another movie that works outside of the box.

People love horror movies, so adding an aspect of terror to a comic book flick could very well end up bringing more people in. Furthermore, it could also result in new creators attempting to produce their own scary comic book projects – especially when they see what they can do with unused characters like Illyana Rasputin.

On that note, Illyana could very well end up being the best comic book character of the year simply because she’s going to be unlike anything we’ve seen. An aggressive and unnerving anti-hero who’s willing and capable to go further than any of the other heroes in the movie, giving fans another fantastic female comic book character to appreciate.

The first trailer shows an image of her screaming and, well,  it’s horrifying thinking of what could possibly scare her.
