Arrow’s eighth season imagines a future without Oliver Queen in its ninth episode, and here’s how you can watch the backdoor pilot for Green Arrow and The Canaries online.

This Tuesday night, The CW will air a brand new episode of Arrow. But it won’t just be any brand new episode of Arrow. No, this one will serve as the backdoor pilot for potential spin-off series Green Arrow and The Canaries.

The show returned to our screens last week (alongside DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) to finish out the earth-shattering Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event – and it did just that, as Oliver Queen sacrificed himself to rebirth the multiverse. That multiverse, however, looked quite different to the one we all knew beforehand.

Now, with Oliver’s death and the end nigh for his show, The CW is planning for a future without the parent of the Arrowverse, so they’ve decided to take us to that future in order to allow us to catch up with Oliver and Felicity’s daughter Mia Smoak-Queen (Katherine McNamara) and two of the show’s most beloved characters.

More from Arrowverse

Mia’s happy life in the future comes without any knowledge of the Crisis or her brief time with Oliver leading up to it, but when Black Canaries Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy) show up in 2040 to restore her memories, it leads to an epic adventure that eventually sees Mia take up the mantle of Green Arrow with the two versions of Black Canary by her side.

Fans are, of course, hoping that the pilot episode is a success so that it can join fellow newcomer Arrowverse series Superman & Lois (which just got a straight-to-series order) on The CW’s 2020-2021 schedule.
