David Ramsey’s John Diggle has been teased as Green Lantern on Arrow, and we’re finally getting answers in the series finale.

Over the years, Green Lantern has been teased in one form or another in the Arrowverse. Usually in two specific ways–Hal Jordan and John Diggle’s potential future. According to TVLine, when asking if Arrow‘s final season will drop any final teases to Green Lantern, David Ramsey himself had this to say:

"“Without a doubt. You are absolutely going to get your answers. And well-deserved answers. We’ve been talking about this for years, and I think everyone by series’ end will be very happy.”"

With only one episode of Arrow left, we may very well discover John Diggle’s fate as a Green Lantern. The question is, should John Diggle become the protector of Sector 2814? It’s clear that the series is hinting that he should: his stepfather is Roy Stewart, and The Flash of Earth-90 asked him why he wasn’t wearing his ring in last year’s crossover, Elseworlds.

In the comics, John Stewart eventually becomes a Green Lantern, and Lanterns wear power rings that grant them power. As far as Earth-90 is concerned, there is every chance that The Flash of that world is, in fact, referring to John Stewart that happens to be Earth-1 John Diggle’s doppelganger. His stepfather’s surname does seem like a big clue, but none of these factors point to whether or now John Diggle possesses the will (the emotion the green energy represents) to become a Green Lantern.

More from Arrowverse

Fellow Bam Smack Pow contributor Andre Farquharson mentioned in conversation that he doesn’t think John Diggle has the will to become a Green Lantern but that he would be better suited as a Blue Lantern–heroes that use the blue energy of hope as their power. And this writer couldn’t agree more. John Diggle held on to hope as long as he could during the devestating events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. His hope for Oliver’s life was only lost when his memories were returned and he realized Oliver died twice during their battle to save the multiverse.

However, as far as we know in the Arrowverse, the Green Lanterns don’t exist or haven’t made themselves known. While there’s a lot that could be going on in the cosmic world of Lanterns, it’s a good bet that if John Diggle were to become a Lantern in the series finale of Arrow, he’d be joining the Green Lantern Corps. And there could be evidence in the same TVLine article that John has a future in green–Ramsey talked to Arrowverse creator, Greg Berlanti, about the upcoming Green Lantern series for HBOMax. He didn’t say anything to the effect that he’d be one of the Green Lanterns on that show, but there’s hope!
