Riverdale teases shocking affair storyline for two beloved characters

This week’s episode of Riverdale suggests that two of its most beloved characters may start having an affair, but is everything what it seems?

With the conclusion to every episode, the flash-forward sequences draw nearer as Riverdale prepares to unveil the fate of one of its most beloved characters.

Yes, the truth is that we’ve all been on edge since finding out that Jughead Jones may end up dying during Spring Break and, since the beginning of Season 4, each flash-forward has pointed towards just that.

However, this week’s installment – “Chapter Sixty-Eight: Quiz Show” – suggested that, in the wake of tragedy, Betty Cooper might end up growing closer to her oldest friend. That’s right – the flash-forward sequence revealed an upset Betty sharing an ever-so-brief moment with long-time friend, neighbor and old flame Archie Andrews – as the latter took her hand to comfort her and she reciprocated. While that’s totally normal given the circumstances, the long-lingering shots of them looking at each other has some fans convinced that the ship known as ‘Barchie’ is about to set sail.

The idea of a romance between Betty and Archie shouldn’t sound all that alien given that it’s one we all expected at the beginning of the show due to its Archie Comics origins. But ever since Betty’s relationship with Jughead took off, fans have fallen head over heels for the phenomenon that is ‘Bughead’.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Riverdale has teased romance for the pair, with longing looks in the Season 1 finale and a brief panic-stricken kiss in Season 2 both going over pretty poorly with the Bughead fans. With that in mind, we’re all left wondering if they’d risk going there again – especially as Archie is currently in a relationship with long-term girlfriend Veronica Lodge (or as they’re known ‘Varchie’).

As it’s highly likely that nothing in the flashforwards are what they seem, there’s a strong possibility that Betty, Archie and Veronica have faked Jughead’s death and are now carrying on some form of pretense to convince Bret that he really is gone. Then again, it’s Riverdale so literally anything could happen.
