Marvel’s Loki TV series taps Owen Wilson for key role

Marvel’s Loki has found a new cast member in Owen Wilson.
Marvel Studios’ Loki has added Owen Wilson to its cast, reports ComicBook.com. While details on his role are being kept close to the vest, the trade has learned that he’ll be playing a major character. Wilson joins Tom Hiddleston, who is reprising his role as the God of Mischief, and Sophia Di Martino, whose role is also unknown.
Rick and Morty’s Michael Waldron serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer, and Daybreak scribe Kate Herron is directing the series. Production has begun, and Tom Hiddleston marked the occasion with a prep video on Instagram. Despite this, the project is still filling out its cast, as it’s aiming to cast Sera, who would be the first transgender character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Wilson has had a varied career that includes comedies like Shanghai Noon and Meet the Parents as well as dramas like Behind Enemy Lines and Midnight in Paris. Loki will mark his first foray into the superhero genre. Coincidentally, Wilson’s brother, Luke, will enter the DC Universe as Pat Dugan/S.T.R.I.P.E in The CW’s Stargirl.

Loki will pick up with the version of the Asgardian trickster that was seen escaping with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. With this, the character will not have experienced the events of MCU films like Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War. While no specifics have been given about the plot, concept art alludes to Loki jumping through different time periods using the Space Stone. The series will also tie into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the second Disney Plus series to do so after WandaVision.
Loki is set to premiere in 2021 alongside fellow MCU projects like Hawkeye, What If…?, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Thor: Love and Thunder.
