MCU: What we learned from WandaVision, Loki and The Falcon & Winter Soldier’s Disney Plus teasers
Loki
When it came to footage length, Loki was the shortest of the bunch, with only a seconds-long shot of Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief teasing a pretty cruel act of violence. But don’t you worry, my fellow comic book lovers, because the teaser’s briefness didn’t stop it from possibly dropping a huge reveal about the series.
Look closely, and Loki is wearing a type of uniform (perhaps a prisoner uniform?) with the letters “TVA” emblazoned on the left side of his chest. This acronym could stand for Time Variance Authority, an organization in the Marvel Comics world that’s in charge of keeping track of time travelers to stop them from messing up things in the timeline. Think of the Time Wraiths from The Flash but far less nightmare-inducing.
Why is this important, you ask? Well, in Avengers: Endgame, Loki escaped the clutches of the Avengers by using the Tesseract as a portal away from New York. It was confirmed during Marvel Studios’ Expanding the Universe documentary on Disney+ that Loki would feature time travel. Assuming the God of Mischief is indeed involved with the Time Variance Authority, the show could have huge ramifications for the entire MCU.
Putting all these revelations aside, this new teaser made one thing clear: the MCU is starting a new era. WandaVision does not have a specific release date, but it’s expected to drop on Disney Plus at some point in 2020. While not confirmed, during a director announcement for the show, Deadline stated that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would arrive in August of 2020. Loki is expected to be released in 2021.
