The Flash kills off two major characters post-Crisis
The Flash’s midseason premiere was an intense one, but unfortunately “Marathon” confirmed the deaths of two beloved Flash staples.
Crisis On Infinite Earths was an epic crossover event – the proportions of which had never been seen before. Not only did it witness the end of the multiverse as we know it, it also resulted in the demise of one of the Arrowverse’s primary superheroes.
Naturally, an event of this scale comes with more consequences – consequences which have been manifesting themselves on Arrow, Supergirl, Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. But unfortunately, consequences in Crisis-mode also includes death.
Heartbreakingly, this week’s midseason premiere of The Flash confirmed that, after much speculation, Earth-2’s Harrison Wells (a.k.a. Harry) and his daughter Jesse (a.k.a. Jesse Quick) died as the result of the Crisis. Well, more like ahead of the Crisis.

After the destruction of Earth-2 in the Season 8 premiere of Arrow, fans began to wonder about the fates of both Harry and Jesse and, unfortunately, those fates have been confirmed.
Introduced in Season 2, the father and daughter duo became staples of The Flash as the grumpy Harry was portrayed by Tom Cavanagh and became something of a father figure to Cisco Ramon, Barry Allen and Caitlin Snow, while Jesse was portrayed by Violett Beane and ended up falling for Kid Flash/Wally West and became the superhero known as Jesse Quick – protecting Earth-3 as its new Flash after Jay Garrick’s retirement.
It’s hard to imagine what this means for the show going forward. As Harry was such a major part of both Seasons 2 and 4 – and “Marathon” revealed that he was slowly regaining his trademark intelligence – it’s only natural that we as fans hope he’ll return. Moreover, with Wally due to return before the season’s out, it’s hard to imagine how he’ll cope without her.
This now means that Laurel Lance/Black Canary – the former Black Siren – is the last known living resident of the original Earth-2.
The Flash returns to The CW next Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 8:00 p.m. ET. Are you upset about Harry and Jesse’s deaths? Let us know in the comments below!
