We’ve all been on-edge over Jughead Jones’ apparent death in Riverdale, and this week’s episode might have just revealed the true culprit.

The edge-of-seat mystery in regards to Jughead Jones’ apparent death has grown more and more confounding with each passing episode of Riverdale.

The beloved sleuth’s fate has been up in the air ever since the conclusion of the third season’s finale – which revealed Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge drenched in blood as they vowed to go leave town separately and never speak of what went down with Jughead. And ever since, fans have been very concerned for their beloved Jug.

In the weeks that followed, flash-forwards have alluded to his dark fate, with scenes that depicted Jughead’s body in the morgue and even Betty as the potential killer. Whether or not any of those scenarios are true remains to be seen – but it really does raise the question: Who killed Jughead?

This season has seen the former Riverdale High student make some new enemies at his school – namely Bret Weston Wallis who has taken great pleasure in making his life hell as part of secret society The Quill & Skulls. Naturally, fans are convinced that, if Jughead was killed, then Bret was the person responsible.

However, this week’s episode of Riverdale, “Chapter Sixty-Nine: Men of Honor” threw a curveball when it revealed that one of the friendlier students, Donna, might be the ringleader at Stonewall Prep – not Bret.

Discovering a video tape of her Quill & Skulls confession, Betty and Jughead saw her confess to having an affair with another teacher which she then claimed to have attempted to call off until that teacher’s aggressive behavior frightened her. Betty instantly recognized the wording of her confession because it was the exact same lines she fed her about Mr. Chipping.

If there’s more to Donna than meets the eye, could she be the one who ultimately takes out Jughead? Or was she simply doing it all because Bret told her to? Is this another red herring or does this cliffhanger have greater consequences?

Whatever the case, the plot thickens…
