Jughead Jones has grown weary of Bret Weston Wallis’ barbaric behavior on Riverdale, but it seems like the pair’s upcoming duel could have dire consequences for the show’s beloved sleuth.

All season long on Riverdale fans of Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) have worried about their favorite teen detective. The broody novelist’s days appear to be numbered after the third season’s cliffhanger jumped forward in time to reveal friends Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) vowing to go their separate ways after burning his bloody beanie hat.

To make matters worse, subsequent time-jumps have revealed that Jughead did indeed suffer a bloody demise, with the coroner showing Jug’s dead body to girlfriend Betty and father F.P. Jones (Skeet Ulrich). Following that, the show then revealed that Betty was somehow involved, leading fans to assume that her inner-darkness was responsible for the apparent death of her boyfriend.

That being said, we’ve all been watching the students of Jughead’s new school Stonewall Prep like hawks because they simply can’t be trusted. That goes double for his new roommate Bret Weston Wallis (Sean Depner), who somehow manages to get everything he wants and mysteriously even managed to make Moose leave Stonewall.

With Bret crossing Betty too, it’s clear that these three are on something of a collision course towards that treacherous Spring Break – when we’ll finally get answers as to what happened to Jughead. And, after the events of last week’s episode – in which Bret publicly shamed Betty by revealing that she had the answers to the quiz – Jughead had enough.

Escalating things, he challenged his fellow Quill & Skulls member to the ancient practice of a duel, in which both men promised to fight to the end. And that duel takes place in tonight’s episode “Chapter Sixty-Nine: Men of Honor”.

Check out the trailer for the upcoming episode below:

Fans are concerned that the pair’s duel could end up sealing Jughead’s fate. We know how much contempt they have for each other and, given how corrupt Stonewall Prep clearly is, they’re not exactly going to be willing to throw in the towel for either man – because tradition comes first.

The trailer for the episode reveals that things do indeed get very physical between the pair – and also for Archie and a mysterious adult – and this has understandably left fans wondering if it’s the beginning of the end for Jughead Jones. While the former Southside Serpent can certainly hold his own in a fight, he’s fighting Bret in his backyard. We know that Betty and Bret are somehow involved in Jughead’s apparent demise and, as Spring Break edges dangerously close, we’re all getting more and more uncomfortable at the though of this impending duel.

Want more? Here’s The CW’s official synopsis for “Chapter Sixty-Nine: Men of Honor”:

"“Archie (KJ Apa) grows concerned for Frank (guest star Ryan Robbins) after someone from his past arrives in Riverdale. Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Alice’s (Mädchen Amick) investigation into incidents at Stonewall Prep leads them on a collision course with their number one suspect. Jughead (Cole Sprouse) challenges Bret (guest star Sean Depner) to a duel to settle their grievances, while Toni (Vanessa Morgan), Kevin (Casey Cott) and Fangs (guest star Drew Ray Tanner) seek revenge against Nick St. Clair (guest star Graham Phillips), who has shown up unexpectedly in Riverdale. Finally, a trip to New York City gives Veronica (Camila Mendes) an opportunity to catch up with her old friend Katy Keene (guest star Lucy Hale).”"

Yeah, it looks like Jughead and Bret’s duel won’t be the only showdown this week.

Fasten your seatbelts, it’s gonna be intense.
