5 reasons DC should greenlight a Birds of Prey sequel
2. A chance to add more members
Another Birds of Prey film would allow for more characters to be added to the team’s roster. Thanks to their history in the comics, the group has a large rogues’ gallery Warner Bros. can mine from.
There is a chance Poison Ivy could be introduced, creating some tension for Harley Quinn and everyone else. Katana can also be re-introduced into the DCEU since she was part of the team in the comics. In addition, a wanted poster of Captain Boomerang in the film — along with plenty of other references — shows that the events of Suicide Squad still happened and have not been forgotten.
Adding more members to the team would also allow the studio to cast more up-and-coming actresses. Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Rosie Perez (who had solid followings before the film) are now known to a larger audience, as is newcomer Ella Jay Basco. Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been in superhero and comic-book properties before, but this is by far her biggest role to date. The biggest movies in Hollywood right now are franchise films, so giving young up-and-coming actresses a chance is always welcome.
The DC Universe is vast and features a slew of characters, and it would be a shame if other characters didn’t get their live-action film debuts as Renee Montoya, Black Canary, Huntress and Cassandra Cain have gotten through Birds of Prey.
