3. One Harley Quinn

Henchgirl Harley Quinn used the running time of Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey to get over Joker and move on from their breakup. With that ordeal came a lot of living in the moment, blowing stuff up, busting skulls, and finding new allies. Margot Robbie plays Harley as a bad person but also elevates her to a level beyond pure villainy.

Mia Sara (of Ferris Bueller and Timecop) didn’t do that back in ’02, which is bound to please fans and detractors who don’t want to see Harley turned into a sympathetic figure. She was a much more traditional Harley Quinn, methodical and calculating. More importantly, she was her Puddin’s dutiful henchgirl.

While Mr. J was behind bars, it was up to Harl — keeping a low profile as a therapist in New Gotham — to carry on his criminal empire and get a measure of revenge on Batman, albeit in absentia, for sending her man to the clink.

That put the Birds of Prey square in her sights. The season built to a climactic head. Harley planned to spring Joker and bring Gotham to its knees, but not before figuring out who was trying to put a stop to her operations.

With Helena being one of her patients, she soon realized her enemies were closer than she thought. It was subsequent hell to pay for Huntress, Barbara, and everyone they loved; no time for bacon-egg-and-cheese sandwiches — just murder.
