How can Marvel’s Devourer of Worlds be made to work in the company’s flagship movie franchise?

Marvel Studios’ eleven-year Infinity Saga came to a conclusion in 2019 with the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe having defeated Thanos.

The Mad Titan had long been on a quest to collect the six Infinity Stones in the franchise and had succeeded in using them to wipe out half of all life in the universe – initially, at least.

The prune-chinned villain subsequently destroyed the stones, so he wouldn’t be tempted to use them again, and so his actions couldn’t be undone, which left the Avengers in something of a quandary. Thor subsequently killed Thanos out of frustration.

But having traveled through time to gather the stones from different points in history, the heroes did manage to bring the erased billions back – but they also managed to bring Thanos with them.

They defeated the purple-skinned despot once more and, as far as we’re aware, that’s the end of him.

That leaves the MCU sorely lacking in terms of a “big-bad” – a character capable of providing a legitimate threat to every hero in the franchise – but one such character could be Galactus.

Galactus is a cosmic entity who, quite literally, snacks on planets – and it really doesn’t get much more dangerous than that! He’s touted to make an appearance in the MCU at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Quite frankly, however, he looks kind of ridiculous. Typically, he’s a gigantic humanoid in purple armour with a rather dorky-looking helmet – and that really wouldn’t work in live-action.

2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer tried to portray Galactus differently from the comic books – as a giant cloud, no less – and that was equally ridiculous.

So how can the MCU get the character right? Let’s explore some ideas…
