Who is the Sentry?

The Sentry is Robert Reynolds – a character created by the trio of Paul Jenkins, Jae Lee and Rick Veitch – who made his comic book debut in the year 2000.

When he was introduced on-panel, he was a middle-aged, overweight man who suddenly remembered that he was actually a superhero with the power of “a million exploding suns.”

His power had come from a far more potent version of the same serum that gave Steve Rogers the power to become Captain America – but, rather weirdly, barely anybody else remembered who he was.

After coming to the realization that his archnemesis – the enormously powerful Void – was re-emerging, he was forced to seek out a number of Marvel’s most prominent superheroes for assistance.

His subsequent discussions with those heroes brought a lot to light. When the Void had previously threatened the Earth, the heroes had discovered that the Sentry and the Void were two halves of the same person. The Void was essentially a manifestation of the dark side of Reynolds’ personality.

In order to save the world, Reynolds had erased the memories of nearly every person on the planet, including his own – but the re-emergence of the Void meant the Sentry was needed once more.

But why would he be so great in the MCU?
