3. Captain Marvel

All MCU fans thought that Black Widow would be the first female Marvel character to get a solo movie, and even though she certainly deserved that honor, she didn’t get it. That honor went to Captain Marvel instead, with Brie Larson playing the role of the intergalactic hero.

In Marvel Comics, Captain Marvel a.k.a. Carol Danvers is arguably the strongest member of the Avengers. She’s well-known among comic fans as the leader of the Kree and protector of the universe. Her heroism influenced other heroes to step forward, thus making her one of the most influential heroes in the comics.

Captain Marvel gave fans a unique look at the hero’s beginnings. The film took us back to the ’90s providing us with the origin story Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) famous eye patch. The story follows a galactic war between two races, Kree and Skrull with Earth being caught in the middle. Also, at the center of it all is Carol, a member of the Kree who learns that her life isn’t what she thought it was.

Joining Larson and Jackson is Lee Pace, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Annette Bening, and Djimon Hounsou, The film is written by Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet; Boden and Fleck also directed.

The film was divisive among fans and critics, with some loving it and others being less-receiving, but it was certainly a long overdue milestone for the MCU to hit. And with it on Disney Plus, you should check it out for the first time (or again) so that you can be the judge.
