The War of Jokes and Riddles

This eight part mini-series kicked off in style with Batman finally popping the big question to Catwoman: if she would marry him. However, before she gives her answer, he wants to tell her of a case that took place during his second year as Batman and explain to her an instance where he fears he crossed the line so that she knows exactly what type of man she’d agree to marry.

That second year focused on Batman being caught in the middle of a war for Gotham between The Riddler and The Joker. While The Joker is not set to be in The Batman, the story would still work well if The Joker’s role in the comic was replaced onscreen by The Penguin. In that scenario, just imagine how awesome it would be to see Paul Dano and Colin Farrell going at it.

Without giving away that line-crossing moment where Batman had some blood on his hands, it did end with Catwoman still saying “Yes,” so the end to this movie could theoretically open the door to a sequel diving into the wedding between Batman and Catwoman, which would be great in itself.

Beyond just a compelling story, this story is impressive for taking a throwaway, silly character like Kite Man and making him into someone both endearing and lovable. Let’s see if they can recapture that in movie form.
