The Flash’s season 6 finale won’t air in May but it will finish the season
It looks like The Flash’s season finale won’t be airing this side of the summer.
Ever since the shutdown of The CW’s Arrowverse shows, things have been uncertain in regards to when and how the likes of The Flash, Batwoman, Riverdale and Supergirl will continue production. This was an understandable action on the part of Warner Bros. TV in response to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
According to Variety, The Flash has enough completed episodes to last until May 19, which will presumably take it up to episode 20 of season 6 before it will go on hiatus. It will then hopefully return at some point later in the year to finish out season 6 before the seventh season kicks off.
As revealed not too long ago, The CW has recycled some previous episodes of shows such as DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash – which aired repeats in their usual slots. However, given that Legends has already completed production of all 15 episodes since January of this year, the show won’t be affected as much as its Arrowverse counterparts.

Other popular shows on The CW that reportedly have season finales affected by the COVID-19 outbreak are Supernatural and Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies (which has already been renewed for a third season). Again, the hope is for the shows to return later in the year with the final episodes of their seasons – and, in Supernatural‘s case, final episodes of the series. In the meantime, however, expect repeats to air in their place.
Variety has confirmed that The Flash‘s production will remain on hiatus until it is safe to proceed with filming. However, the show will return to The CW on Tuesday, March 31 with a repeat of the episode “Grodd Friended Me” before officially returning to air the 16th episode sometime in April.
