Superman and Lois has cast a new actor to play Lois’ father General Sam Lane with Dylan Walsh taking on a regular role in the series.

Dylan Walsh is taking over from Glenn Morshower as Lois and Lucy Lane’s father, General Samuel “Sam” Lane in the upcoming Supergirl spinoff, Superman & Lois according to Deadline.

Sam Lane will play a regular role in the first season which has been sent straight to series with a 13-episode order. Dylan Walsh will join Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane as they navigate the struggles of being working parents to teenage twin boys, Jonathan and Jordan in today’s society.

Superman and Lois will be the second CW and WBTV series to star Dylan Walsh after his short stint on the short-lived Life Sentence where he played Lucy Hale’s father. The actor has starred in various shows over the years including Blue Bloods on CBS, Whiskey Cavalier on ABC and Law & Order: SVU on NBC. He has also starred in FX’s Nip/Tuck.

It will be interesting to see how different Sam and Clark’s relationship will be post-Crisis on Infinite Earths as it’s reported that General Lane will call upon his son-in-law to help in emergency situations. To add to the intrigue that the general will bring is the relationship he will have with daughter Lois (as it’s mentioned pre-Crisis by Lucy that her sister and father don’t get along).

Crisis on Infinite Earths changed a lot of things and the relationships of certain characters would be part of that. After all, Lois and Clark went from having one son to twin boys because the universe reset. It might also mean characters were erased from a person’s life. For example, we currently don’t know the status on Lucy so it’s possible that she might not exist post-Crisis.

If all goes well, Superman and Lois will begin filming in a few months when the other television series begin shooting their new seasons.
