A new comic book character has been added to the cast of Superman & Lois. Lana Lang will appear as a series regular on the show.
After announcing the arrival of Lois Lane’s father for the first season of Superman & Lois, another comic book character will be joining the show as well. Deadline reports that Emmanuelle Chriqui (The Passage) will be stepping into the role of Lana Lang. It’s also great to see that the showrunners have cast an actor of colour to play the fan-favourite character.
In the comics, Lang is a childhood friend of Clark Kent and an occasional romantic rival to Lois Lane. She is one of the earliest characters to learn of Clark’s Kryptonian heritage and superpowers. In some comic book runs, Lang has been given superpowers, though she remains a supporting character in most comics. She has appeared in several live-action Superman properties, and her most popular portrayal is by Kristin Kreuk on Smallville.
As per Deadline, on Superman & Lois, the character goes by Lana Lang-Cushing and she remained in Smallville while her peers moved on. Since Superman and Lois live in Metropolis with their two sons, we can assume that Lang decides to briefly visit the big city to meet her friend.
Lang will appear on the show when she reaches out to Clark during a difficult time in her life. Can we assume that Lang is going through an existential crisis? Or perhaps she’s facing some domestic strife.
Will there be some romantic tension between the characters? It’s been established that Clark and Lois have been in a steady relationship for quite a while in the Arrowverse, so a possible love triangle may not be a wise choice for the development of these characters.
Superman & Lois is set to debut in Fall 2020. The show follows the Man of Steel and the reporter extraordinaire navigate life as working parents to twin sons Jonathan and Jordan, who will be played by Jordan Elsass and Alex Garfin. Dylan Walsh will appear on the show as General Sam Lane. No other cast members have been revealed as yet.
