2. What’s the deal with Charles and Chic?

Undoubtedly the most unexpected moment of the season came when it was revealed that Betty and Jughead’s long-lost half-brother Charles Smith was secretly in a relationship with Chic – the unhinged young man who pretended to be Charles and got Betty, Alice and the rest of the Cooper/Jones clan into a spot of hot water on more than one occasion in Season 2 before he eventually became the Gargoyle King in Season 3.

Reuniting during Charles’ prison visit, the two shared an unnervingly tender moment as they declared their love for each other while revealing to the viewers that they were in cahoots all along, apparently setting up some strange kind of revenge storyline between these two and Betty, Jughead, Alice and FP.

However, while that was indeed the first we saw of these two together, it was also the last thus far. And since then, Charles has adopted the heroic role pretty well, using his FBI connections so that he’s always on hand to help Betty and Jughead whenever necessary – saving them from a number of situations and ultimately helping them solve the mystery of Stonewall Prep.

Have the writers forgotten about this unusual plot thread, or has the show intentionally attempted to make us forget so that they can shock us with it at a later point in time? Whenever Chic is involved, we should all expect the unexpected.
