The Justice League Dark is set to explode onto the small screen in a brand new TV series from HBO Max.

WarnerMedia Entertainment’s upcoming streaming service HBO Max has certainly been the talk of the streaming world as of late, with fans excited to meet the new player. And while it’s certainly been going all out to get fans excited by housing some of the past and present’s most beloved shows – as it will include the likes of Friends and the second season of DC Universe’s Doom Patrol – it’s also set to create some new and exciting content.

That’s right, HBO Max has just handed out orders to three new one-hour drama series from J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television Group. While two of those shows will be crime series Duster and The Shining offshoot Overlook, it’s the third that is perhaps the most intriguing.

In what is undoubtedly a move that will make comic book fans happy, the streaming service has ordered a major series that is described as being based on DC Comics characters in the Justice League Dark universe.

More from TV

While no other details have been released as of yet – with a promise of more to come soon – the idea of any Justice League Dark series is undoubtedly an intriguing one.

The supernatural answer to the Justice League normally consists of the likes of John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, The Changing Man and Zatanna, so it will be interesting to see if any of them appear – especially when Matt Ryan portrayed a brilliantly comic-accurate version of the John Constantine character on the NBC series Constantine and currently reprises that role on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

It’s unusual that HBO Max will house the series when the DC Universe also makes it own original programming – such as TitansDoom Patrol and Swamp Thing – but it’s nonetheless very exciting that we’re going to see some characters from Justice League Dark debut on the small screen.
