The ending

The final scenes of Kick-Ass gave us everything we could have wanted: A happy ending for both Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass. They ended up becoming close in the process – a bond they both needed, especially Hit-Girl. She gained a caring big brother after losing her father.

As for the antagonists, Frank D’Amico’s son Chris was now the boss. He was another comic book fan who decided that it was in his best interest to put on a costume. He did this to combat Kick-Ass and get payback for his father’s murder. As he was at his father’s desk in costume, he quoted The Joker from 1989’s Batman, saying, “Wait’ll they get a load of me.” This gave us a cliffhanger that could be left alone or get us excited for a sequel.

Overall, this movie wasn’t a five star flick. Nonetheless, it was fun from start to finish. And not in just a nostalgic way. Kick-Ass remains what it was 10 years ago. It’s escapism. Something we can turn on and get away from it all. It’s still funny. Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s performance still rocks. Mark Strong was good as always. And Chloë Grace Moretz’s Hit-Girl still did an exceptional job of carrying a lot of the movie. Unlike a lot of films before (and after), Kick-Ass won’t let you down… not even 10 years later.
