The Plot

Kick-Ass was set in something of a real world. There were no super-powered beings, aliens, or anything like that. Dave Lizewski (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) was just a high school kid who loved comic books. After seeing injustice first hand in the real world, he decided to put on a costume and be a hero. It didn’t work so well, and he immediately got a severe beat-down, ending up in the hospital.

Later, Dave meets Hit-Girl and Big Daddy who are on a separate mission for revenge – one that eventually puts them on the same path. The rest of the movie leads to death, destruction, and a lot of bad words from thirteen year old girl.

That’s the short version of the movie. Going back, Kick-Ass’ theme wasn’t the greatest. However, it was fun. As it was stated earlier, this flick doesn’t take itself too seriously. If it did, it wouldn’t have been good. The idea that a teenage boy who’s probably never thrown a punch became a hero is absurd. In fact, he gained notoriety by getting beaten up on camera and going viral. That’s the funny part. It’s a concept that still works today. Maybe it was more factual than we think.

Overall, the plot for the movie was solid and it flowed well. The reason it worked is because the cast had amazing chemistry with each other. Beyond the chemistry, there were two standout performances from stars that weren’t even the lead.
