Supergirl’s fifth season was supposed to air on The CW, but it has been delayed for some time. When does it return to screens?

Supergirl season 5 has been a regular part of The CW’s programming this year. A veteran Arrowverse show that started its run on CBS, fans have been enjoying it for almost five years now.

The fifth season has been a tale of multiple tales as it has had a lot going on. For starters, the Girl of Steel herself, Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist), has had to deal with backlash from former friend Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) who found out that she was Supergirl before she found the right moment to tell her – starting what is threatening to be a descent into villainy.

On top of that, the planet has been under attack from an ancient threat known as Leviathan – a threat that has been impossible to see coming. To make matters worse, Kara and her team also had to save the multiverse with the Arrowverse’s other heroes in the long-teased Crisis On Infinite Earths.

The icing on that stressful cake, however, just might be the return of Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) who single-handedly managed to rewrite reality so that the former villain would now be recognized as a hero of the people – even though it’s clear he’s anything but heroic.

The latest episode of Supergirl, “Alex In Wonderland”, aired in its usual slot and it was a unique episode that saw Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) attempt to deal with the death of her father by using Obsidian Tech to create a fantasy in which she was Supergirl.

The next episode, “Deus Lex Machina”, however, will take things back to Lex as we finally discover how he managed to use the Crisis to make himself a “hero”. The episode is also directed by Supergirl herself Melissa Benoist.

Check out The CW’s official synopsis for the episode below:

"“Lex proceeds to lay an intricate plan to bring Lena closer to him, defeat Leviathan’s latest attack, and pit Supergirl against Leviathan; how Lex came into power after Crisis is revealed.”"

The episode was initially expected to air on March 29, but after the production on most of The CW’s Arrowverse shows was shut down due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, the network has reshuffled a lot of its content.

After further reshuffling, it has now been confirmed that the show return on Sunday, May 3. It was expected to air in April, but due to the limited amount of completed episodes, it has to be pushed back a little.

It won’t be long until the Girl of Steel flies up, up and away again.
