Ripley Ryan

During this arc, Carol Danvers was assigned a reporter. Someone that could help with her public image since she was going to be an Avenger again. Ripley Ryan was that reporter.

Before they could start the interview, Ripley and Carol Danvers ended up in a weird apocalyptic time pocket of sorts created by Mahkizmo. After they escaped, Ripley thanked Carol and left, but she later returned as a hero called Star. Little did we know, however, that she wasn’t a hero.

With the help of Kree Doctor Minerva, Ripley was taking energy from Carol to make herself more powerful.

In the end, Carol defeats her, but not before Ripley put dozens of innocent lives in danger.

Another thing Captain Marvel hates is civilians getting hurt. She will protect them with her dying breath. Ripley didn’t care. Once Carol Danvers stopped her from taking power from her, Ripley switched to draining innocent bystanders of their energy to power herself. Carol sacrificed some of her powers to keep the people around them safe. A lesson that Ripley Ryan didn’t understand. It was ultimately her demise.

Captain Marvel is the universe’s protector. Her powers make her strong, but it’s her will and morals that make her a great hero. A lesson we’ll see a lot with Captain Marvel.

Her defeat of Star was bittersweet. You felt bad that Ripley Ryan was trapped in a hellish world, but you also couldn’t stand by and be content with her hurting people who didn’t hurt her – definitely not the one who saved her life when she was helpless.
