Star Wars: The Mandalorian season 3 has been confirmed
By Scott Brown
Six months before the second season is set to be released, pre-production on The Mandalorian season 3 has already begun.
In an exclusive from Variety, it has been revealed that series creator and showrunner Jon Favreau has been writing season 3 of The Mandalorian “for a while.” This is unsurprising as Favreau wrote several episodes of the show before it was even greenlit by Disney, but there is more happening than just the writing of the season.
Concept art is already being worked on for the third season of the acclaimed Star Wars show with the Lucasfilm art team, headed by Doug Chiang, having created concepts “over the past few weeks.” Furthermore, another source in Variety’s article stated that the production design team began work on the third season on April 20.

It is extremely rare for any show to begin work on pre-production on the following season of the show only a month after the previous season had wrapped production, which The Mandalorian did in early March. In fact, the second season of the show isn’t even scheduled to be released until later this year in October. With the team working on the third season of The Mandalorian already, this shows a vote of confidence in the series by both Lucasfilm and Disney regarding the longevity of the show after it exploded in popularity as a launch title for Disney Plus.
This isn’t the only Mandalorian related news to have been revealed over the past month or so either. A report from IndieWire seemingly revealed that Rosario Dawson had been cast as Ahsoka Tano for season 2 of The Mandalorian, although that will neither be confirmed or denied right now. Ahsoka is currently the main character for the final arc of The Clone Wars animated series, which just aired the first part of “The Siege of Mandalore” arc last Friday on Disney Plus.
