Arrow’s Katie Cassidy teases Green Arrow and The Canaries pick-up
Arrow’s leading lady Katie Cassidy has shared her thoughts on why a Green Arrow and The Canaries pick-up might be on the cards after all.
Arrow may have come to an end but its legacy might just continue in Green Arrow and The Canaries. This potential spin-off series would be set two decades in the future, following the adventures of Black Canary Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), fellow Black Canary Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy) and new Green Arrow Mia Queen (Katherine McNamara) as they protect Star City 2040 from rising evil.
It all kicked off in the penultimate episode of Arrow‘s final season – also titled “Green Arrow and The Canaries” – which served as a backdoor pilot for the potential series. It aired in January and received praise from fans and critics, becoming the most-watched non-crossover episode of Arrow‘s concluding season, earning an impressive 0.89 million viewers – significantly more than even the series finale.

Though The CW has yet to make an official announcement on whether the show has been picked up for not, the network was initially expected to do so at the upfronts in May. As those have now been cancelled, the fate of the show still remains unknown for now.
However, that hasn’t stopped one of the three stars of the show – and the longtime leading lady of Arrow – Katie Cassidy from remaining positive about the chances of a pick-up. Speaking to TVLine, she revealed that she’s feeling confident in the show and the likelihood of a pick-up, adding:
"“I’m a very positive person, so I feel confident that we’ll go [to series]… If there was ever a time for a three-hander, all-female badass show, now is the time!… So I’m not worried. I’m feeling pretty good about it.”"
Though Cassidy’s positivity isn’t yet a guarantee, it’s certainly a promising sign. A veteran of the film and TV industry, she clearly has experience when it comes to pick-ups and renewals, so let’s just hope that The CW/Warner Bros. decides to move forward with the project.
To echo Cassidy’s words: Green Arrow and The Canaries is exactly what superhero fans need right now, and given the high ratings and positive feedback, it’s clear that the people want to see it.
Make it happen, CW! Let those Canaries Cry!
