The Flash season 6 won’t be airing all 22 episodes this season, but Grant Gustin has teased what we can expect from the unexpected finale.

The Flash season 6 returned to our screens on Tuesday, April 24. The episode, “So Long and Goodnight” saw the unexpected departure of a key character and it’s left fans reeling as to what comes next.

In preparation for its return, leading star Grant Gustin was interviewed by TVLine about what we can all expect from the final episodes of this season.

Following an update that the show featuring Central City’s lightning-fast protector has been shortened now from 22 episodes down to 19 episodes due to the shutdown of production amid the novel coronavirus outbreak, the hope was that Warner Bros. Television but, as far as this TV season goes, they are unable to proceed past episode 20.

During the interview, Gustin shed some light on a number of things including the return of Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash and what the original finale was.

"“There was going to be a big Thawne cliffhanger at the end of what this season would have been, but that’s not going to be the cliffhanger we get. [Episode] 619, “Success is Assured,” is going to end up being our finale, so we’re going to have a different cliffhanger than originally planned. But the cliffhanger does serve as a pretty good finale.”"

From the sounds of this (and judging from the episode title), the impromptu finale may not partially wrap up the Black Hole/Eva McCulloch and the Mirrorverse arc and perhaps even setup part of the story for next season, leading up to Reverse-Flash once again taking over as villain in the finale.

That means at least part of the arc will tie up some loose ends with McCulloch and the Mirrorverse plot. Whether Eva or her husband Joseph Carver will be able to realize their goals by season’s end is another story. As for the creative team’s plans are for Thawne, we may have to wait to find out in season 7.
