X-Men: The 20 best characters of the last decade
By Mark Lynch
17. X-Man
Honestly, Nate Grey (X-Man) hasn’t been much of a player in the last decade. He’s made a few appearances here and there, but nothing to write home about. All that power only to be an afterthought to most people. Now, let’s rewind to 2019 in Uncanny X-Men. A series that almost ruined human and mutant relations.
Nate Grey was set on fixing the world before his immense power killed him. He captured a mutant-hating senator, Kitty Pryde, and Apocalypse to create a council. The idea was having three people with different morals to help him fix the world’s problems. He also mind-controlled Angel, Magneto, Omega Red, and Blob and made them the Horsemen of Salvation. That’s the kind of power he held.
This won’t shock anyone, but he failed and made things worse. X-Man’s plan gave the U.S. Government all they needed to try and make the mutant gene illegal. They went as far as making a shot that kills the gene in kids before it even develops.
X-Man wasn’t as great a character as some of the others on this list, but his influence in Uncanny X-Men issues 1-22 was felt. He made the world hate mutants more than almost anyone not named Magneto. If Marvel does a What if… series on this, it would be interesting.
